Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 9 Review


‘Young Fish and Reverse Punishment’ was a really nice episode where new characters make a fantastic appearances.

  • Junpei Yoshino confronts Cursed Spirit Mahito

Junpei was clearly disturbed by the environment he lives in. He’s fed up of being bullied and accused of passing lewd comments. So much so that even though he doesn’t want to kill the people he hates but is ready to press the button that kills the people who hate him.

Skipping classes he goes to watch a movie, ‘Earthworm 3’, now that’s one movie title you don’t see every day. There he watches Mahito deform the heads of the bullies and kill them. Mahito doesn’t do anything to Junpei but walks away. Junpei confronts him saying what he did was not something a human could do and wants to know if there was a way for him to do the things he does. Mahito seemed a very interesting character from the opening theme. Now we get to see what his powers can do. He has a disturbingly strong power and he will prove to be a nasty villain ahead. As he teaches Junpei we get to know Mahito is made from the hatred humanity feels for each other. We also get to know how curses reflect upon what humans fear.

  • Grade 1 Sorcerer Kento Nanami

A serious ex-salaryman who has become a sorcerer, hates being a sorcerer and hates working for a company equally. Gojou sensei introduces Nanami to Yuji. Nanami feels like a reliable character who will guide Yuji for the future. His critical point theory for killing curses is awesome. With his weapon he cleanly slices his opponents. Gojou sensei, being quirky like he is, likes to irritate Nanami a lot. Their pairing couldn’t get any better for creating the funny atmosphere of jujutsu kaisen. Nanami and Yuji investigate the murder of the three boys in the theatre where they fight two curses. This is where we get to know Mahito also has the power to change a human’s appearance into a curse. Yuji has learned more about his powers that makes him better at fighting the curses. Even Nanami appreciates his powers.

  • Conclusion

Yuji is now tasked to follow Junpei, which will unfold in the next episode. Nanami has plans to investigate the hideout. The episode was fun and interesting. Jujutsu is about to finish half the season. So far it’s been a really nice series and I love it. The juju scroll at the end of episode shows Gojou sensei again pranking Nanami. This pairing reminds me of Shigure and Hatori from Fruits Basket. If you haven’t watched Fruits Basket, watch it, it’s a really good series.

 ‘Plot of Extinction’ was a decent episode and it also had its good moments. The Trap set by the White Clad I don’t know what the White Clad had in mind with their plan of destruction, but it didn’t make much sense. Why were they trying to destroy Tokyo Emp ire? The reasons were not revealed and since the plan failed, they won’t be revealed for a while. The Pillars are an important resource for the White Clad and they are supposed to protect them. By blowing up the Empire they were risking the lives of two Pillars which is not sensible. The Battle with Dr. Giovanni Dr. Giovanni is a creepily Victorian styled character. First he had turned his body into a mechanical mess which was very interesting to see. But his madness has now driven to such a level where there are now insects accumulated in his body which are ready to go any time. The Day I Became a God Episode 8 Review

 ‘The Day of Trip to the Beach’ was an episode of major revelations. Since last episode we got to know to there is something more to Hina’s story than is currently shown to us. Our Great Odin-sama has a Grandfather Hina has a dream about her grandfather, hinting her life before she became a god. The title of the series ‘The Day I Became a God’ might actually be meant for Hina all along. This was a brilliant way to use that as a title and confuse the audience for the first half of the series. Youta’s parents knew about the grandfather which was their mentor, and who Hina actually was. This explains why they were so quick to allow Hina to stay at their place. Youta decides to take Hina to her father who had got remarried. Even amongst all this, the writer keeps the comedy element of the series intact.
